A Message for Those 40 and Above: Building the Next Season with Wisdom and Intention

If you're 40 and above, this blog post is for you. Everyone else can gently skip, this one speaks to a different season of life...
I write this not to remind you of what is gone, but to help you see how much life is still in front of you, waiting to be built with wisdom, peace, and intentionality.
The Best Time to Plant a Tree
They say the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, but the second-best time is now. Maybe your 20s and 30s were about survival and sacrifice. Let your 40s and 50s be about intention, wise financial decisions, and building with clarity.
Don't Chase Quick Fixes
Don't carry the mindset that you're already late and then start chasing quick fixes. At this stage, capital preservation should be at the center of your financial decisions. Slow growth, steady progress, and predictable returns..
The World Has Changed
The world has changed. Enormous wealth now lives in digital spaces, online platforms, and skills that didn't exist 15 years ago. And sometimes, the people who understand it best are younger than you. There is no loss of dignity in learning from a GenZ who's your daughter or intern at work.
Hello Mike... "I hear people are making money from AI, can you show me what that actually looks like in real life?" "They say content creators earn online, what does that really mean? Who pays them and for what?" "People talk about digital products. What kind of things can someone my age sell online without being a tech person?"
Ask Them!
Ask them! Many will gladly teach you if you just show genuine interest. There's no shame in learning and it is never too late. You can build a business at 50, start a tech career at 40, or even go back to school at 45.
Don't Measure Your Journey with Society's Timelines
Don't measure your journey with timelines society created. At this stage, life is not about speed, it's about alignment. Move towards what matters, not what trends.
Your Career at 45
Your career at 45 should be less about active income, and more about leverage and flexibility. If your work cannot survive without your constant presence now, take the next 2-5 years to build something that can, skills, systems, assets, or even a reputation strong enough that opportunities come looking for you.
Your Health is Now Part of Your Financial Plan
Keep in mind that, your health is now part of your financial plan. The strongest investment you can make is in your energy, your sleep, your mental clarity. Protect them the way you protect your money.
Friendships at This Stage
Friendships at this stage should be intentional. Choose people who speak peace into your life, who talk about plans more than people, who push you gently toward growth.
Forgive Yourself
Failed marriage. Business that didn't work. Opportunities you wasted. Money you mishandled. Forgive yourself! You made decisions with the wisdom you had at the time. Now that you know more, move differently, but without regret.
Regret is a weight, and at this stage of life, you should only carry what helps you rise.
On Debt
Remember, some debts steal your future while others build it; Know the difference. Every naira of debt you pay off is like reclaiming a piece of your future.
Steady Progress Over Quick Fixes
Don't carry the mindset that you're already late and then start chasing quick fixes. At this stage, capital preservation should be at the center of your financial decisions. Slow growth, steady progress, and predictable returns
